What is Global Warming? All you need to know

Temperature is a critical parameter for humanity to sustain life on Earth. Extreme temperatures (cold or hot) are detrimental to the survival of life on our miracle planet. The average temperature of the earth is comfortable at 15 °C. The extreme temperatures range from -89.2 °C recorded in Vostok weather station in Antarctica to 56.7 °C in Furnace Creek Ranch, California, in the USA.

Historic temperature trends show the alternative duration of high temperature followed by lower than average temperature throughout planet Earth’s history. This resulted in ice ages and also ice-free tenures in history. So, what is the significance of the recent uptrend in temperatures when this is normal to have such periods in the past? Why we are hearing so much about it on social and print media? Well, there is a certain cause of concern that this trend of rise in temperature is not as natural as it was in the high-temperature trends of the past.

Global warming may be referred to as an increase in the average temperature of our planet Earth for a prolonged period. The causes of Global warming are numerous. For example, the use of excessive fossil fuels is one major reason that is exacerbating Global warming. This temperature rise is rapid and threatening the ecosystem of our planet Earth. Retreat in glacial extent and mass is one such example. Over 03 billion people are directly or indirectly dependent on the glacier water that feeds the river in all regions of the world.

To solve the Global warming issue, people need to focus more on renewable energy sources including solar and wind energy rather than focusing on conventional fossil fuels such as hydrocarbons. Similarly, the use of public transport rather than private transportation sources should be promoted to reduce the urban island heat impact.
